Sixteen pieces, six mills, two factories

ShoppingStore started because most clothing tells you almost nothing about itself. We keep the range small so we can answer every question about where a garment came from, what it is made of and what it will do after a year of wear.

Ethical manufacturing, stated plainly

Our garments are cut and sewn in two family-run factories — one outside Porto for wovens and jersey, one in Prato for knitwear. Both are small enough that we know the floor managers by name and visit twice a year.

Wages are checked against the local living wage benchmark rather than the legal minimum, and overtime is capped at eight hours a week. An independent auditor reviews payroll and hours records every six months, and we publish a summary of what they find, including the years it was not perfect.

Fabric is where the money goes

Roughly 46% of what you pay for a ShoppingStore garment is cloth. That is unusually high, and it is deliberate: a better yarn is the only thing that reliably decides whether a piece still looks good in its third year.

  • Long-staple and extra-fine yarns

Combed cotton and 19.5 micron merino, chosen because short fibres are what cause pilling.

  • Washed before cutting

Shrinkage happens in our laundry rather than yours, so published measurements stay true.

  • Tested for rub and colourfastness

Every cloth is Martindale rub-tested and light-tested before we place a production order.

Retail policy in plain language

No conditions buried in a footnote. This is the whole policy.

Returns and exchanges

Thirty days from delivery to send anything back, unworn and with tags attached. A prepaid label is in every box. The first size exchange on an order costs nothing; later ones are charged at the flat shipping rate.

Refunds are issued to the original payment method within five working days of the parcel arriving with us.

Shipping

Orders leave the warehouse within 48 hours on working days. Shipping is $9.50, or free once the bag reaches $150. Duties are included in the displayed price, so nothing is collected at the door.

Every parcel is packed in recycled card with paper tape and no plastic sleeve.

Repairs and faults

Seam failures, button losses and knitting faults are repaired or replaced free for two years from purchase, whatever the reason they appeared.

Beyond two years we will still repair the piece at cost rather than have you replace it.

Ask us which mill wove a specific cloth, what the last audit found, or how a garment held up in wear testing. We would rather answer than leave it vague.
